Despite of the ritzy workplace and high end lifestyle offered by the private companies,still the people in india has a strong desire to join into a government job.Every year lakhs and lakhs of candidates opt for govt entrance exams which is more than the mba aspirants and why not,the number of vacancies in government sector is increasing where as,private sectors are feeling the heat of demonetization and GST, thus the concern about the job security has increased among the people.Where as,the level of comfort, prestige and security provided by the government sector has caught the eye of every individual. Now a days, many of the fresh candidates coming out of the college,rather than joining a private company opt preparing for government exams. Even some of the candidates after working in various corporate, shifts to public sector. Interestingly,these candidates are not from a particular stream, these aspirants are from all sets of streams and workplace.The continuous fall in the growth chart of IT companies has added further concern among the employees as IT was the first preference of most of the fresh candidates around the nation.This year Railway has decided to conduct the greatest ever online examination in India with a vacancy of around 2.5 lakhs. It is expected around 10 lakhs candidates will appear for the examination which is around 8-10 times more than the number of CAT takers.The question that appears here is why the demand for the public sector is increasing every year as compared to private sectors.To answer this lets analyze few things:
1) Flexible Working hours:
We know that, to survive in a private company lots of efforts are required which doesn't allow you to step out of the office gate until you accomplish your day's task.This does not apply to a government employee who are very punctual😂 as far as working hours are concerned they go home at 5 in the evening without worrying about the pending work. So it will be 9-5 work, rarely one has to do a overtime.
2) Job security and stability:
The biggest reason for a candidate to join government job is job security.No sooner you sit on those easy chairs u don't have to worry for your job,you can continue till your retirement.No competition among the employees for achieving targets, No worries for Job security at all.
3) High packages;
The 7th pay commission has really provided a great boost to salary packages of employees. A fresh graduate can expect a minimum package of around 3 Lacks+allowance in start which is way better than salaries offered by private sectors. Apart from this, the other benefits and perks offered by government are equivalent to salary offered. So it becomes a dream start to one's career. Also the pension schemes are lucrative. The only drawback here is that promotions are timely and one cannot expect a quick promotion.
4) Less Work Stress:
Well if you are not at a posts like IAS or CEO's postion you don't have to worry much about the pressure of work.These doesn't mean that government employees don't work but yes pressure is less compared to private jobs.
5)Yearly vacation holidays:
Unlike private jobs you don't have to plea to your officials for a leave or vacation holidays, there is fixed yearly vacation holidays and everyone is entitled to get benefited by this.
These are few of the possible reasons but honestly, The work pressure, no work life balance has forced many to give up on a private job and look for a future in public sector.
